What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Finch Air Conditioning & Heating in La Porte always tells you about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be NATE-certified. The certification is voluntary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Finch Air Conditioning & Heating that our experts are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these standards, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The assessments are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Finch Air Conditioning & Heating focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas pertinent to our technicians. NATE exam candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
  • Ground Source Heat Pump Loop Installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst

You can count on the technicians at Finch Air Conditioning & Heating to be highly trained and professional to do the project right the first time. Our company has the knowledge and qualifications to not only service and repair your HVAC systems, but to take the high quality of care of your equipment.
