4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Kingwood it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been working for months attempting to keep your home comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some TLC. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call Finch Air Conditioning & Heating immediately.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from Finch Air Conditioning & Heating.

  • Make sure your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound laughable, but we are always running and life happens, so it’s very easy to ignore the simple fixes. Neglecting to move over the thermostat can make you believe you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is in the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you might look at regularly. Most units have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about contacting our furnace repair man.

  • Change your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and postpone any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for declining performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your children to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your loved ones healthy. You can also schedule seasonal maintenance with Finch and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your tune-up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Confirm that your circuit breaker that controls your heating system is in the “off” position. If it ends up in the middle position, switch the breaker to the “off” position and then switch back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be costly, so avoid a future issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Finch Air Conditioning & Heating. However, if you are needing furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
