We previously told you about a few of the most common air conditioning problems La Porte faces, but today we are here to tell you about some typical AC issues that you can help troubleshoot.
Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.
If your AC is running but not actually cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air blowing from the system is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is usually a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.
A simple way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to find the two copper pipes on your AC system. If the large one is “sweating” or covered in condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are probably good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.
If you’re not positive or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Finch Air Conditioning & Heating and we’ll come out and confirm your refrigerant levels and learn why your AC is not blowing cool air. Keep in mind, only an EPA Certified technician should handle refrigerant for central air conditioners, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.
You air condenser fan isn’t spinning.
There are several reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One is that it simply burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is hindered. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to locate the trouble; but, if not, give Finch Air Conditioning & Heating a call and we can determine what has stopped your condenser fan from rotating and review your options to get your air conditioning problem fixed.
Your air conditioning system is not providing adequate air cooling.
First thing’s first: try dropping the temperature on your thermostat. It seems absurd but sometimes our busy lives cause us to overlook the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your system working right, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause major cooling problems. Another thing that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are constructed. Finch Air Conditioning & Heating is happy to come out and perform an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your air conditioner is causing your troubles.
Air Conditioner shuts on and off repeatedly
If your AC is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of several things. One possibility is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the equipment is cleaned and all blockages moved out of the way, you may be back to a normal running air conditioner. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if the home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, it could result in an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable.
No matter your issue, whatever typical or atypical AC trouble you run into, Finch Air Conditioning & Heating is here for you around the clock. We are available all the time so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable as soon as possible.
