Common La Porte AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed some of the most common air conditioning problems La Porte faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some typical AC issues that you can help troubleshoot.

Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.

If your A/C system is running but not really cooling, you may need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is required to make sure the air coming out of your AC is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is usually a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to go out to your air conditioning system and find the two copper pipes. If the larger of the two is “sweating” or covered in condensation, touch the pipe to feel if it’s cold. If it’s cold to the touch, you are most likely good to go and do not need additional refrigerant.

If you’re not positive or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Finch Air Conditioning & Heating and we’ll pay you a visit and confirm your refrigerant levels and learn why your AC is not blowing cool air. Keep in mind, only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central air conditioners, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t spinning.

There are many reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One could be that it merely burned out and you need a replacement. Humidity generally causes more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is hindered. If you can confirm these things, you may be able to locate the trouble; but, if not, give Finch Air Conditioning & Heating a call and we can inspect what is preventing your condenser fan from rotating and review your options to get your air conditioning problem corrected.

Your air conditioning system is not providing adequate air cooling.

It sounds crazy, but try dropping the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes our busy lives cause us to overlook the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is clogged, it could cause major cooling problems. Another problem that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a frequent issue when homes are constructed. Finch Air Conditioning & Heating is happy to come out and perform an analysis to determine if the size of your AC is causing your troubles.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off repeatedly

If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of several things. One thing is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the equipment is cleaned and all blockages moved out of the way, you may be back to a regular running air conditioner. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if the home cools to the desired temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this could cause an on-again, off-again system because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever typical or atypical air conditioning trouble you run into, Finch Air Conditioning & Heating is here for you around the clock. We are available all the time so we can get your air conditioner cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
